I often switch between two feature phones on Verizon by calling *228. Will Verizon let you switch between a smartphone and a feature phone by calling that number? Someone told me that with a smartphone you must agree to pay the data plan for 1 or 2 years but I’ve also heard of someone switching between a feature phone and smartphone all the time.

I used to do it all the time, and there is no contract on data plans. You can add and remove them anytime during your contract, whenever you want. Just know that when doing this, you will be charged for the FULL data package, even if you only use it for a day. This is where Verizon gets you. You used to be able to just pay for the data package for the day, but not anymore.
